This is a holiday which has been celebrated for hundreds of years in many different countries.

This is a very romantic day which has inspired numerous plays and movies.

West Side Story is a romantic movie.

West Side Story is a 1961 film and is an adaptation of the Broadway musical of the same name.

The musical was adapted from William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.

The action was filmed largely in Los Angeles although the film's opening sequence was shot on the streets of New York City.

The film was released on October 18th, 1961.

It received praise from critics and the public and became the second highest grossing film of the year, domestically.

The film won ten Academy Awards in its eleven nominated categories as well as a special award including Best Picture.

The soundtrack album made more money than any other album before it.

The Phantom of the Opera is a romantic movie.

The Phantom of the Opera is a musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

The musical focuses on a beautiful soprano who becomes the obsession of a mysterious, disfigured musical genius known as "The Phantom of the Opera".

The Phantom of the Opera opened in London's West End in 1986.

In 2008 the West End production surpassed its 9,000th performance.

It is the second longest-running West End musical in history and the longest running Broadway musical.

In 2004, the musical was made into a movie.

What are you planning to do on Valentines Day?

Until next time.
From YOUR Teacher: Valentines Day

Yup I really like all the movies shown below especially The American President, The Thomas Crown Affair, and West Side Story. Spend tonight with someone you love and watch one of these romantic classics.

Video: The American President
The American President - A widowed U.S. president and a lobbyist fall in love. It's all aboveboard, but "politics is perception" and sparks fly anyway. Use a dictionary to look up words you do not understand.

Video: West Side Story
West Side Story - Westside story is the award winning adaptation of the classic romantic tragedy, Romeo and Juliette. The feuding families become two warring New York City gangs- the white Jets led by Riff and the Puerto Rican Sharks, led by Bernardo. Their hatred escalates to a point where neither can coexist with any form of understanding. But when Riff's best friend (and former Jet) Tony and Bernardo's younger sister Maria meet at a dance, no one can do anything to stop their love. Maria and Tony begin meeting in secret, planning to run away. Then the Sharks and Jets plan a rumble under the highway - whoever wins gains control of the streets. Maria sends Tony to stop it, hoping it can end the violence. It goes terribly wrong, and before the lovers know what's happened, tragedy strikes and doesn't stop until the climatic ending. Video: The Thomas Crown Affair
The Thomas Crown Affair - A titular billionaire, for kicks, would rather steal works of art than buy them. Charged with investigating his crimes, sleuth Catherine instead falls under his spell. Despite the warnings of detective Michael, Catherine moves closer to Thomas and finds herself facing a moral quandary. Use a dictionary to look up words you do not understand.

Video: Pretty Woman
Pretty Woman - Edward is a wealthy, ruthless businessman who specializes in taking over companies and then selling them off piece by piece. He travels to Los Angeles for a business trip and decides to hire a prostitute. They take a liking to each other and he offers her money if she'll stay with him for an entire week (since it doesn't do for a man of his stature to be alone at society parties and polo matches). Romantic comedy (and complications) ensue. Use a dictionary to look up words you do not understand.

Video: The Phantom of the Opera
The Phantom of the Opera - The following video was a trailer (preview) for the movie. Try to understand as much of the movie trailer as possible. Use a dictionary to look up words you do not understand.
