Definition of a preposition phrase

A preposition phrase:
is also called a prepositional phrase
is a phrase that begins with a preposition such as
to the store
from the house
under the fence
can function as an adjective, an adverb, or the indirect object of a verb
can function like a single word preposition (next to, in front of, etc., called complex prepositions)

Examples of preposition phrases

The cat from China was ill. (adjective)
She ran under him. (adverb usage of a prepositional phrase)
He gave money to the cause. (indirect object)
