Definition of an exclamatory sentence
  • An exclamatory sentence:
  • is the same as a declarative sentence except that it adds emphasis
  • ends with an exclamation mark
  • is commonly used in speech but used only in certain types of writing
  • is not usually used in academic writing, unless making a direct quote
  • is occasionally used in short stories or novels to emphasize a point

  • This food tastes great!
