Definition of an adverb

An adverb is a word that modifies the meaning of other words
An adverb can modify a:
noun - adverb modifying a noun
pronoun - adverb modifying a pronoun
verb - adverb modifying a verb
adverb - adverb modifying an adverb
adjective - adverb modifying an adjective
phrase - adverb modifying a noun phrase
sentence - adverb modifying a sentence
An adverb can also be used as a:
complement
preposition
An adverb has specific spelling rules

Types of adverbs

conjunctive adverb
shows the relationship between, and join together, two sentences or clauses
degree adverb
increases or decreases the effect of the verb
manner adverb
shows how an action is performed
place or location adverb
shows where the action of a verb is done
time adverb
shows when an action takes place, the frequency of an action, or the duration of an action
